New Updated Look and Feel
We have updated the program icons used in AltaPoint Medical, AltaPoint Vision, and AltaPoint Chiropractic to give the program a more updated XP-like look. The new icons are displayed in a soft hi-color format. If AltaPoint is run on a computer using 256 colors, the old (classic) icons will be displayed instead.

New HIPAA Features
AltaPoint Medical version 5.0 provides dozens of new features to help meet the challenges imposed by HIPAA. Among these new HIPAA features are: enhanced security with optional data encryption; expanded options for securing and tracking protected health information; comprehensive tracking of amendment requests and responses; detailed internal access logs of patient records; quick access to all external requests for patient records; and the following suite of integrated forms and letters.

New Document Management
Attach virtually any Windows document directly to a patient record. List all documents stored for a particular patient by selecting the new Documents tab on the patient form. Simply click on the desired document to view it from within its native application (MS Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and many others).

New Electronic Remittance
The electronic remittance feature has been provided to automatically post insurance payments directly from a text file. This new feature is accessed by selecting Activities | Electronic Claims | Post Electronic Remittance File from the main menu.

QuickBooks Direct Posting
AltaPoint has always supported a QuickBooks posting feature. This feature has been improved in version 5.0 to be faster and easier. Posting to QuickBooks is now a single-step process. Validation of all QuickBooks general ledger accounts is done at the time of posting. All posting is done directly to QuickBooks rather than to an intermediate posting file (.IIF).

New Labs Interface
AltaPoint EMR can now import HL7 formatted lab results. View multiple labs on screen and receive notification of labs ready for review. Powerful tracking features help you view the lab detail including: who requested the lab; who reviewed the lab; the facility where the lab was performed; the diagnosis that prompted the lab order; and the lab status.

New Transaction Processing Features
The Apply Payments routine is now deposit based. This feature allows you to quickly scan payments received and processed based on a variety of search criteria. You can also exit the program in the middle of a long and detailed insurance check and later return to the point you were at when you left. Finally, the Apply Payments form now reflects the “Allowed” amount when viewing billing detail.

Data Archiving
Archive paid billings as well as purge past appointments. Once archived, transaction detail from paid bills can still be printed on the  Transaction Journal, Practice Analysis, and Patient Ledger reports.  Other improvements include the ability to record up to four modifiers when entering transaction detail. Referring Physicians can now be specified at both the patient and billing levels.

New Reporting Options
All reports and forms can now be printed directly to a PDF file. This is done by simply selecting the PDF option at report print time. Once created, the PDF file can be password protected, encrypted, restricted and even e-mailed.  New options on the Transaction Journal allow this report to be sub-sorted by name, chart, guarantor code, or bill number. New filtering options provide for the selection of insurance companies and facilities. The Transaction Journal can now also include diagnosis codes.  The new Comparative Analysis report provides a detailed practice analysis with columns representing: Month-to-Date, Quarter-to-Date and Year-to-Date values.  Other new reports include: Monthly Production Summary by Day; Yearly Production Summary by Month; Fee Schedule; Face Sheet; Sales Tax Report; Inactive Patient List; Patient List by Diagnosis; Patient List by Insurance Company; and Responsible Party Patient List.

New Backup and Restore Options
The backup and restore process has been improved to be faster and more flexible. A progress bar has been added to reflect backup status. For those practices who use external backup programs, a new option is available to disable the backup reminder when exiting AltaPoint. You can now choose to restore only selected files from a backup set.

Image Annotation and Drawing
Images can now be interactively updated with handwritten notes and drawings, typed text and lines, boxes, circles and other shapes.  Over a dozen stock images are also provided including: drawings of the human body – male/female/front/back/adult/adolescent; hand – right /left/front/back; foot – right/left/top/bottom; head and face – male/female; inner ear; and spine. It is also easy to add your own stock images and drawings.

New Features for Vision Care Providers
AltaPoint Vision has been enhanced with more contact lens fields and an expanded vision prescription form.

Anesthesia Units
Comprehensive support has been added to automatically calculate and bill units of anesthesia.

AltaPoint in Spanish and Portuguese
We are thrilled to be able to announce new Spanish and Portuguese versions of AltaPoint Medical. When installing and running AltaPoint for the first time you will now be prompted for your desired language. A new language translation feature has been added to AltaPoint that allows end-users to further customize the translation of screen prompts and other text used in the system for specific countries.

Laptop Data Synchronization
Fast and powerful, this new option allows you to maintain your full AltaPoint program and data on a laptop computer. Practice information, patient data, and medical records can now be viewed and updated away from the office. Upon returning to the office, simply synchronize the AltaPoint data on your laptop with your office computer using a network connection. All changes are recorded on both your office computer and your laptop. (See Pricing.)

Integrated Adverse Drug Interactions
For AltaPoint Medical EMR users, this option provides instant checks on all prescription and over-the-counter medications the patient is taking.  The user is instantly alerted to any potential interactions. Ad-hoc queries of any number of drugs can be performed interactively. As an extra feature, complete references related to individual studies can be viewed and printed. (See Pricing.)
